To coach or to mentor — that is the question

Coaching and mentoring are often used interchangeably. They are different, and effective leaders can make the distinction: when to coach, when to mentor, when to educate, facilitate, teach or consult.

Research shows only 9% of a manager's time is spent coaching or mentoring — and the quality is often mixed. Yet ongoing development of team members is proven to drive engagement, improve performance and reduce attrition.

What you'll learn

  • Coaching skills: inquiry-based questioning that creates 'possibility thinking', raising self-awareness, giving feedback that lands

  • How to build a coaching and mentoring culture so learning is ever-present in your organisation

Outcomes

On completion you receive a certificate of attainment recognising the standard of skill you have developed. Use these skills to strengthen your current leadership — or to build a career as a coach, full-time or part-time.
